About Us

Canaan Home Care is a family owned, not for profit organization and is at the forefront of the home care industry. Canaan Home Care offers the highest level of care. Since 1982, Canaan has been delivering the highest level of home care in our community. We are here to help! For this reason, we have created the CANAAN CARES FOUNDATION, a non-profit 501©(3) group, which helps fund research and care options for elderly and disabled individuals. A portion of every dollar we make goes to the Canaan Cares Foundation.

Our Story

Our founder, Christopher Jenkins, grew up in New Canaan, Connecticut, a small town where he learned about caring for neighbors. Christopher was also deeply influenced by his grandparents, the late Reverend George and Louise Brown, to always care for others and to live a life of social impact.

In 2001, Christopher and his wife, Susan, welcomed their first daughter, Allison, into the world. Soon after Allison’s birth, it was evident that she had developmental and medical complications. At the time Christopher was managing a technology company and decided it was time to step down and focus on Allison and the family.

Through personal experiences, Christopher has learned both the joys and challenges of providing 24/7 care to a vulnerable loved one and the importance of finding experienced, compassionate, and affordable care. Chris’s experience as a parent formed the bedrock of our shared values and mission-oriented family business.

We love hearing what others say about Canaan Home Care. Read our testimonials and find out what they think!

Sylvia Canaan Home Care

Sylvia Nestorov- Marketing Director

My career has always been centered upon the goal of serving others. I have a degree from Columbia University and have spent most of my professional career in NGOs and government agencies focused on helping others – whether working for Mayor Bloomberg’s Office in NYC, or as a community facilitator between local businesses and government agencies in Europe. Improving the lives of people has been the primary impetus for all my professional decisions. Today I serve as a Sales and Marketing Director at Canaan with the goal of making our mission known to the larger community – as the premier Home Care company in California. I feel I am lucky to do what I love – helping people. Personally, I am an avid runner, tennis player, and skier, speak five languages (learning more), and love reading about history.

Those boyhood pursuits have been replaced with new passions for gardening, thrift shopping, travel and bowling. Voted ‘most improved’ by his league, here’s yet another example of Michael’s dedication to personal excellence and teamwork.

Outside of his hobbies and work, Michael loves to spend time with his spouse and two dogs.

“Work Hard and Be Kind” Everybody!

Jaelon Nuñez - Regional Care Manager

Raised by her grandparents, with her paternal grandmother being a hospice nurse, Jaelon was exposed early to the needs of an aging population. While in elementary school, she would accompany her grandmother to visit patients, where she learned to listen, understand the complexities of care, and witness the realities of grief and loss. Inspired by these experiences and the guidance of her grandparents, she pursued a bachelor’s in Sociology with a minor in Gerontology from California State University, Northridge, followed by a master’s degree in Gerontology from California State University, Long Beach.

Jaelon’s career began with serving socioeconomically disadvantaged seniors, first as an intake coordinator for a nonprofit and later as a Geriatric Case Manager in the Coachella Valley. She connected low-income older adults with essential services like housing, transportation, and healthcare programs. After relocating to San Diego, Jaelon transitioned to home care, working as a Care Manager for two agencies before joining Canaan Home Care.

Currently, she serves as Canaan’s Regional Care Manager for San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles counties, where she conducts assessments, creates individualized care plans, advocates for clients, and ensures caregivers provide top-quality service. Outside of work, she enjoys concerts, Dodger games, reading dystopian novels, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her dog.
