What are the qualifications of the caregivers?
Most of our caregivers are licensed by the state and are either Medical Assistants, Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs), Home Health Aides (HHAs), or Licensed Nurses (LVN or RN). All have passed a very thorough screening process, including a 50-state criminal background check, detailed reference checks, behavioral interviews, and caregiver competency tests. On average, less than 5% of all applicants meet our stringent standards.
As of 2016, all non-medical home care companies legally in the State of California will need to be licensed under the Department of Social Services. We have already received our license numbers: 304700021 & 374700014. All of our caregivers are on the California registry and have been cleared to work.
Are the caregivers employees of Canaan Home Care?
Yes, all of our caregivers are employees of Canaan Health Care, Inc. (dba Canaan Home Care) and are covered by our Lloyds of London General Liability Insurance and Commercial Crime Bond, and are covered by our Workers Compensation Policy through California’s State Fund (the most thorough and expensive).
Do you require a minimum number of hours per week or minimum number of months of service?
No, but generally if someone needs care, a 4-hour shift is the recommended minimum. We try to be as flexible as possible and you can cancel at any time.
How do you bill and what forms of payment do you accept?
We invoice clients (or payer) weekly and accept check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). We also work with all of the major insurance companies, and are a preferred provider with most long-term care companies.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, it is customary in this industry to require a deposit. While we require a minimum deposit of two (2) weeks expected care, the deposit is fully refundable when care is terminated.
How do we begin service and how quickly can we get care?
Simply call one of our offices to speak with a Care Coordinator. Generally, we can start a case within an hour’s notice if needed.
Do you help Veterans apply for and receive benefits?
Yes. Please read more about this here.
What are your office hours?
Our offices are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. After business hours, calls are handled by our answering service and routed to our “on call” Care Coordinators.
